IGNOU MFNP 12 DISSERTATION PROJECT REPORT AND SYNOPSIS MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN DIETETICS AND FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT (M SC.DFSM)
The M.Sc. Programme in the area of Dietetics and Food Service Management has been developed with a view to address the needs of training work force/developing manpower (dietitians, nutrition counsellors, food service managers etc.) for the emerging employment sector (hospital/community dietetics, food service management). The programme will offer unique opportunity of higher education to learners to enrich their working lives by entering into the market and/or starting their own food service unit, leading to entrepreneurship.
The special feature of the programme is that it has a provision of exit point for learners in the form of Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics and Public Nutrition (PGDDPN) after having successfully completed 30 credit course work and three months internship programme (16 credits).
For MSc. (DFSM) Programme:
- 1st Year Courses : MFN 1, MFN 2, MFNL 2, MFN 3, MFNL 3, MFN 6, MFNL 6, MFN 8, MFNL 8 and MFN 10
- 2nd Year Courses : MFN 4, MFNL 4, MFN 5, MFNL 5, MFN 7, MFNL 7, MFN 9, MFNP 11 and MFNP 12
MSc (DFSM) is a multimedia package, which includes print material and audio-visual material. The programme is multidisciplinary in nature. It draws knowledge from disciplines such as Biochemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, Sociology, Biostatistics, Food Science, Management, etc. In view of the above objectives and the nature of the programme, the courses so designed will help the learners:
Gain knowledge;
Develop critical abilities;
Offer scientific opinion on popular nutrition, dietetics and other related issues and controversies;
Acquire a basic grounding in research techniques;
Train and develop as a diet counsellor and nutrition/ health communicator;
Develop as institution food administrator or food service managers, and
Develop entrepreneurship skills
Practical: Practical courses constitute the backbone of the MSc. (DFSM) programme. Participation in the practical sessions is absolutely compulsory. Each practical course is worth 2 credits and the duration of the practical sessions is 7 days i.e. 14 sessions of 4 hours each. The term end practical examination will be held in the 15th session of the practical spell.
